This 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo (VIN WP0AB29901S685182) has a claimed 23,875 miles and is finished in Basalt Black Metallic over Graphite Grey leather. The seller states, “The car was recently inspected, serviced and aligned (GT2 specs) by Autometrics in Charleston SC.” Remember, no IMS/RMS work needed with the Turbos as they lack the IMS bearing design. Could this be better than Tuesday’s Turbo? FACTORY Aero, Carbon Bits and low mileage?
No Build Sheet available so we’ll go off the pics. The exterior is finished in Basalt Black which was an up-charge and we think looks much better than the standard “Jet Black”. This car is also sporting the rare Factory Aero which included a front chin spoiler and a fixed rear wing (no hydraulic wing repairs in your future).
The car comes with two sets of wheels, from our eyes we believe them to be a set of Kenisis and a set of the newly released Apex SM10 wheels (very nice).
2001 was the first year of the 996 Turbo. On the exterior the Turbo body was widened 65mm at the rear and a new moving rear wing was designed to improve lift busting.
The front-end was redesigned with a new bumper designed for better road holding and downforce and the lights were reworked after all the complaining customers did because the 911 couldn’t be distinguished from the “pedestrian” Boxster.
This Turbo appears to sport its stock aluminum Brembo “Big Red” Calipers, 330mm (13″) discs and according to the seller is wearing newer Bridgestone Potenza’s with 75% tread left.
The 996 Turbo was equipped with the M96/70 twin-turbo charged, DOHC engine good for 420 HP with updated VariocamPlus and DME. Porsche couldn’t fit the intercooler on top of the engine, like in previous iterations, so it was split into two and mounted on each side of the engine. The cooling is supplied through the ducts to the rear of the doors (thus widebody).
The interior is finished in “Graphite Grey” with the full leather treatment. We spy what appears to be a Factory Carbon package and an aftermarket double din Navigation system.
These 996 Turbos offer exotic levels of performance for not much money these days. Some sellers on the market are extremely optimistic trying to get mid 60’s plus (some even $70K). This low mileage Factory Aero could be yours for less than Tuesdays car. If you want your #firstflatsix to be the Turbo variety, this looks like one worth enquiring about. Don’t forget that PPI!
